Complement to Chiropractic Care

Problems in the musculo-skeletal system can impede the natural healing process, and often cause dysfunction and pain.  Most chiropractic doctors would agree that it is important to treat soft tissues such as muscles and tendons to help prevent and correct subluxations, and lessen the accompanying pain.  Together, chiropractic and massage provide you with a more complete and effective system of health care.

What are the benefits of chiropractic adjustments and massage together?

Local massage is often used in preparation for an adjustment.  Massage relieves muscle tension and warms up the soft tissues in the area, making joints more pliable and more easily adjusted.  Many chiropractors themselves (or a massage therapist) prepare an area with local massage.  A general massage (1/2 to 1 hour long) can also be good preparation for an adjustment.  In addition to preparing the immediate area of concern, it helps you relax overall and become more receptive to other hands-on treatment.  Some find massage before an adjustment beneficial for further relaxation.  With regular therapeutic massage, chiropractic adjustments may last longer.

Especially for pregnant women, the combination of the two can mean great relief from ligament, muscle, and joint pain.  During a woman’s pregnancy, her body undergoes extreme changes.  The growth of the baby forces the musculoskeletal system to transform itself so as to accommodate new life and prepare for childbirth.  The entire body is challenged.  Chiropractic adjustments and prenatal massages ensure that the musculoskeletal system is restored to proper alignment and balance so that the nervous system can function at its best, as well.  This should be a vital part of any pregnant woman’s prenatal care.

Before and during her second pregnancy, Nichole received chiropractic work and massages.  These treatments relieved her of pain and kept her body in balance.  As a further result, it cut her labor time in half and she was able to have her daughter without any pain killers/anesthesia!
